Air Intake Question. MST or Forge
Quote from Nic Elfeney on October 28, 2024, 10:20 amHi All,
First time posting here!
Lil background from me, from New Zealand and have a 2020 ZC33s. Bought it fairly recently and loving the car.
I am exploring various upgrades I can do from parts available in NZ/AUS.
I am stuck on what brand I should choose for the air intake. Thought putting it out there might give me some feedback from people who have done more research or have them on there car themselves.
Looking at the MST CAI SUZ-SW03 which would need to be shipped from Australia. The other option is the Forge Motorsport CAI FMINDK29, I can get this from a NZ company who places monthly orders to Forge. The MST before shipping is $100 NZD less than the Forge but currently there is a sale on the Forge so as of today they are the same price.
The supposed gains in power seem pretty similar (correct me if im wrong), so I guess it comes down more to sound and looks.
I've seen a few videos of the MST intake online and personally it sounds nice. I haven't been able to find a video on the Forge however.
In terms of looks I think the Forge looks better to me, bit cleaner with how the piping is laid out.I am wanting a nice audible sound from inside the car when I accelerate hard but nothing too loud or obnoxious since it is a daily driver.
It is coming up to summer here so would love to get at least an intake, exhaust and tune done before I take it out of town for road trips.
If anyone has any advice or experience with either intake, I would greatly appreciate the input!Cheers!

Would you recommend it personally? And how would you compare the sound to an MST intake?
Appreciate the input

Quote from Reza Ekarantio on October 30, 2024, 2:44 amI have CTC open intake, sounds mega BUT from my experience in stock car it will lose low end power and gain some at the very top end. Dyno might suggest increase in power everywhere but real life driving is a bit different.
After some experimentation, i deduced the stock intake resonator is needed for that low end power. I settled with OEM airbox + HKS panel filter.
Unpopular opinion but a Lower Engine Mount upgrade will increase noise inside the cabin, for me, this type of noise is a better noise than exhaust or intake. Improve handling and changes the nature of the car, more raw and visceral car. NVH take a hit though.

Quote from Nic Elfeney on October 30, 2024, 3:32 amThanks Reza, I actually got off the phone with a well established tuning company here, and the owner said the same thing. He said he doesnt recommend spending money on it and said get a K&N panel filter with a light spray of oil on the air flow side if you want anything or just stick with stock. Said about exhausts that they might provide marginal gains but a cat delete on most cars give bit more power, but obviously some countries dont allow that.
Looking forward, I think ill just get a K&N filter after my HKS panel filter needs replacing. Buy an exhaust, purely for the sound, even if it doesnt give much if any gain and a tune, the tunes offered here give around 30hp and 70nm of torque. Will look at getting an upgraded intercooler at some point but will do a little more research on that, only looked at HKS and Forge so far.

Quote from Reza Ekarantio on October 30, 2024, 4:28 amIntercooler is my next to do list when funds allowed. I would choose an intercooler with fin tube design instead of bar plate. Lighter and easier to recover for street car. I think Wagner and CTC is the only two doing fin tube intercooler.
I would consider beefing up the lower engine mount prior to tuning or soon after. Even in stock form, driving the car hard in a twisty road would unravel the brilliant chassis due to the engine moving around.

Quote from Reza Ekarantio on October 30, 2024, 10:20 pmFrom what i can gather powerflex does the job but is quite mild compare to say Hardrace, it can also soften overtime (i suspect its the stock mount that soften).
Its a good item to try out your tolerance of the added NVH, much cheaper than other option.
