Brake Fluid
Quote from Yee on May 14, 2021, 6:53 pmHi Guys,
I was looking in the owners manual for specifications and capacities of brake fluid and had a couple of questions.
1.What is the capacity? It doesn’t state a capacity for brake fluid (yet it does for engine oil, coolant, manual transaxle oil, etc). I know the clutch fluid is supplied from the brake fluid reservoir as well, so I’m just trying to work out how much I need to buy, considering I’ll lose some during flushing and bleeding. Suzuki seem to sell bottles in 500ml.
2.Also, the manual states “do not use any other fluid other than DOT3”. Most brake fluid sold nowadays is DOT4 or higher. I know the difference between DOT3 and DOT4 is essentially a higher boiling point, but why are Suzuki still specifying DOT3 for the Swift Sport. I realize it’s not a Ferrari and I’m running standard discs and pads, but still, I’m surprised Suzuki specify DOT3 instead of DOT4.
Any thoughts on either questions?

Quote from Terry Jones on May 14, 2021, 9:01 pmI would guess the amount required to do a full fluid change would be in the region of 1 - 1.5 litres, allowing for a reasonable flush through. In reality the whole system probably only holds about 800mL.
DOT3 is the lowest spec. so I think any of the higher glycol based variants will be fine. So DOT4 or DOT5.1 just as good. I think Suzuki is just referring to that specification rather than ‘only’ DOT3.

Thanks for that, much appreciated ?
I was guessing I would need at least 1 litre for a change, so your suggestion of 1 to 1.5 is a good shout (just to be safe) thanks ?
Yeah, I agree with you about using DOT4 or above will be fine, but I just found it strange what the manual stated ?
If anybody else is interested, look at page 7-38 and read the warning part in the middle "Do not use any fluid other than DOT3 or SAE J1703 brake fluid". Very odd ?
