Cycle rack

12

Does anyone use a cycle rack on their ZC32S?

If so which brand/model?

TIA

I use Thule aerobars with a home made bike fitting. I'll take a picture next time I have the bike on.

Once you have some roof bars there are any number of manufacturers making bike fittings.

I'd recommend avoiding the genuine Suzuki roof bars, they whine in the wind and will drive you mad in no time.

Thanks Bill, I am after a bike rack that will fit on the back of the car so that my wife and son can load their bikes and go to the track. Thule don't have any of this type listed on their website.

I will be getting a roof rack for my kayak at some point so very useful to know that the Suzuki ones whine and whistle, I will get one from Thule.

A Swift with a Kayak on will be a novelty, the boat will be longer than the car!

I'm not a fan of the 'hang on the back' type racks myself - the bike gets utterly filthy with road gunge. Hence the roof bars for me!

I'm in the process of deciding which approach to use for transporting 2 road bikes on my Zc32.

Previously I've been using lots of different hire and car club cars, and the Saris Bones racks are really good for this as they will fit pretty much any hatchback. I had one for about 5 years and it was good, although you need to accept that any boot rack means once its on you can't really access the rear hatch.

I think I am going to go for the Thule low profile aerobars, with 2 fork mounted bike racks. It's pricey, but a good secure mounting option for lighter bikes. Main restriction with the Swift is that the max weight rating for anything on roof bars is only about 45kg from memory (might be wrong though!).

For rear mounting I think I'd investigate is one of the towbar style racks, maybe fitted to a lightweight removable swan neck towbar? Not sure for swift sport how easy it is to fit a towbar though as the boot floor and exhaust layout is different to the rest of the swift range.

I ended up going for a Thule roof mounted system as couldn't find a towbar listed any where for the sport!

Tried a few rear mounted saris bones type with straps but they put too much preassure on the spoiler in my opinion.

Got everything but the fitting kit second hand (if you put your reg no. into Halfords website it will tell you exactly what you need + Thule part no.s) so you can save some cash that way.

The rack kooks nice and secure Chris

It is very secure & enough that you can't tell the bike is on under normal driving conditions. Only run with one bike on there may be different with 2. I might run my Go Pro on it for a few journeys to see whats occuring up there lol. Height is an issue for car parks with height restriction etc so you have to remember its there!! I found it a bit of a struggle lift bike onto roof as I am only 5'6" so take a folding step with me.

I don't leave it on the car other than the first week I had it & had no issues with wind noise even with the square bar option (I couldnt see the point of the aero bars when I am strapping a bike on there)
