Service maintenance
Quote from Gary Chapman on October 24, 2022, 11:30 amSo having just done the rear engine mount, it became apparent that this car should be easy to service.
How many of you bother to do you're own servicing?
As I'm doing some events, hopefully some trackdays as well, I'll want to do more regular oil changes and brake pads. Doing it myself will save money over dealer service. Only problem I see is the service book, though I always keep a log of jobs done with mileage.I'll assume those still in warranty won't but those out of it might.

Quote from Moyz on October 24, 2022, 9:13 pmIts a piece of piss to work on mate, but I'm just getting lazy nowadays so I just get my local garage to service mine every year. He only takes around 100 quid for the parts and labour and saves me scratching about on my back ?
I fitted everything on my car myself however... exhaust, intake, intercooler, boost hoses, engine mount, short shifter, springs etc. but I just cant be arsed doing an oil change for myself ?

Quote from xu5 on November 4, 2022, 4:19 pmMy car will be out of warranty in January and was due its 3rd service last month which i did myself as it came with 2 "free" services from new. I jack up the car every 6 months to change summer/winter wheels and to top up undercoat anyway so servicing it myself is no real hardship. At leadt you know you have done it properly. I will also be changing the oil every 6 months from now on aswell.
I don’t like dealer servicing anyway. Their aim is to make money anyway possible, not to properly mantain your car. Part of the second year service is to change brake fluid and i am certain they did not do this on my car.
For any jobs i do not want to myself i will be using a trusted indie garage.

Quote from Ken Foxcroft on November 4, 2022, 5:23 pmI agree with your general differentiation between dealer and independent servicing. An independant garage has a lot to gain by providing a good service because he hopes to continue servicing whichever car you own or those of family and friends. A dealer is purely their whilst your car is under warraanty and you contine to be loyal to the brand.
Having said that it is still possible for a trusted independent to make a genuine mistake and omit something.

Quote from Retrosooth on January 13, 2023, 4:21 pmOur Sport is due it’s 3rd (36k) service now, it’s done 18k.
I know it’s a big service.
I’m interested to know approx how much the forum members have paid for their 3rd service?
The main Suzuki dealer wants £440 so hoping for less from an independent garage.
