tapping\knocking rear left + other issues
Quote from Liz Haynes on January 12, 2024, 3:45 pmHi guys,
It's really interesting about that brand new 73 doing it. Also that you had to have a drive with the manager! I haven't been back in touch with the garage yet although the right front is definitely more noticeable. The good news I suppose is that Sims Darlington did fix the front left knock on the second go and I haven't had any problems with that side since.
You are right, Joe. It all has to be related. I think it would be a good idea to suggest your dealer contacts Sims Darlington to find out exactly what they did. Initially I put an email in to Suzuki UK who did chase Sims up. That was at the stage when the service manager was treating me like a complete idiot and 'how could I possibly think a Suzuki would have an issue.' It might be worth doing that and providing a copy of this forum chat. Looks like you are going to have to get your dealership manager to have a ride with you! If you can hear something then something is definitely wrong.
I have emailed the manager of Sims Darlington to get more details about what they did to mine.
Keep in touch.

Yes, it was the strut assembly that was replaced. That has fixed it for my car. Hopefully it will work for the other side.

Quote from Joe Randall on January 13, 2024, 10:51 amThank you Liz, I really appreciate you following up on that with Sims.
My dealer is also Sims, so I’ll give them a ring and explain the issue and how yours was solved! Hopefully get some new struts and fix the issue. Sims have been really good to me in the past so hopefully I’ll be reporting back some good news soon!
Thanks again,
Joe

Quote from Donger on January 16, 2024, 4:48 amMy 2022 Sport also has the knocking issue. I bought it at 6 months old with 500 miles. It's now 15 months old, on 13,000 miles and seems to be getting worse.
The knocking occurs when pulling out of junctions, or when there is a dip / crest in the road, or changing directions swiftly (eg, on roundabouts) but speed bumps / rough roads are the worst.
It's been seen by the main dealer 5-6 times but they cannot fix it. They've swapped the N/S rear shock with another Sport but it made no difference.
The area manager sat in the back whilst I drove it. He suggested greasing the bushes, which worked for half a day then the knocking returned.
They've replaced the rear axle, which worked for 20 miles then the knocking returned.I honestly cannot see this issue, on my car at least, getting fixed.

Quote from Joe Randall on January 25, 2024, 11:20 amWe’ve definitely got the same issues here. I’m heading back in to the dealer this time next week to get it checked out. I’ll feed back any potential solutions.
I also sent Suzuki GB an email to say that it seems like quite a few ‘22 Sports are facing the same issue, just to see if they knew something that our dealers didn’t. They said to take it to the dealer (which I expected, and was doing anyway) but also that this isn’t a known issue with the model. They do seem to be taking it seriously though. I’ll keep you all updated.

Quote from Donger on January 31, 2024, 1:02 amLachlan Lynch, the main dealer who replaced the rear axle was Close Suzuki in Corby. I bought the car from them, and have only dealt with them regarding the knocking.
The car is booked for them to take another look on Monday. There was talk about leaving the car with Suzuki in Milton Keynes so they may inspect it more thoroughly (I think that's what they said) or replacing all the bushes, but tbh I don't know what's going to happen.

Quote from Joe Randall on February 3, 2024, 1:03 pmHi all,
Took the car in earlier this week and took a technician out for a drive. I could replicate the sound for him so they took it in to check suspension etc. I picked it up the same day, they checked all the bolts etc. and managed to get a bit of a turn on one subframe bolt, and then they couldn’t replicate the noise when driving it. I’ve had a good drive today and the sound remains. Really not sure what this sound is or how it seems to be a mystery for all of our dealers. I’m going to drop Suzuki GB another email and see what they want to do.
Donger, please let us know how you get on on Monday.

Get your dealer to contact mine. They did fix it. And definitely keep going with Suzuki main office. It’s not a coincidence.

Quote from Donger on February 5, 2024, 8:17 pmI took my car to the Corby dealer this morning for a pre-arranged appointment. For the past day or two, the knocking hasn't been as bad as usual. During the 10 mile drive to Corby, it barely made its usual knocking / clunking noise.
I spoke to the dealer's Aftersales Manager, who has been dealing with me, and he said he would sit in the passenger seat whilst I took it for a short drive. Annoyingly (or not), it didn't make a noise! If it did, we both didn't hear it. He said he couldn't investigate the knocking if it wasn't doing it, but to book it in again if / when it does.
I also mentioned to him that Sims Darlington have had some experience with this issue with at least two customers, and that he would contact them. He later emailed me to say he'd spoken to Sims Darlington and "they didn’t recollect the issue".
To Liz Haynes and Joe Randall, do you know the names of the people who have been dealing with you at Sims Darlington, please? Thank you 🙂
