tapping\knocking rear left + other issues

Hi Guys - it's the strut if it is the same as me and the issues sound very similar to mine. Sims Darlington replaced the strut on front left and it fixed it. The knocking has now started front right. Same pattern as last time - quiet at first (you think you are imagining it) and then getting more and more noticeable. I live up a farm track (yes not ideal Swift Sport territory) so have lots of opportunities to hear it. It also knocks sometimes when I turn left at a junction.

Am having right strut replaced when it goes in for a service which will be soon. Hopefully that will work again. I'll let you know.

Worth putting in emails to Suzuki UK. There must be something going on with these cars. I really like mine but it has caused me a lot of stress and not sure I would get another.

I have a 23 plate and have found this forum after searching online for information about whether anyone else has got this knocking before I go back to the dealer. Knocking started around 6,500 miles on the back left side of the car.

This morning I found this, which may be helpful: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UdtSyqswdKU

Oh wow, it’s crazy to me that this is such a common issue!

I’ve had the car back to the dealership, and they’ve had the struts off the car and in pieces to investigate each part. They’ve ordered strut tops (which are on back order) to be fitted as soon as they come in.

Again, I think the dealerships are doing amazing work here trying to fix these issues. I’m hopeful that these strut tops will fix the issue and I can report back some good news soon. Although, judging by Carolyn’s video - it might not be the strut tops failing!

Hi all,

Just wanted to tie this thread up. I’ve had both front strut tops replaced (and it looks like they’ve been given some white grease to protect them too) and I haven’t had any issues for a few weeks now. If you’re still having issues with the noise, try getting the strut tops replaced and that should help.

I’ll keep monitoring it, just in case the noise comes back. But it’s all looking positive now!

Thanks,
Joe

Hi Joe,

Thanks for the positive update! I'm going to pass this info on to my local dealer. Just to summarise, what has your dealer replaced please? Is it front shocks & springs, and front strut tops?

If you don't mind me asking, what is your reg number please? Hopefully my dealer will talk to your dealer, and they can come up with a solution to the knocking on my car. Please PM me, if you'd rather not post it publicly 🙂

Thank you!

Just a quick message to say the dealer replaced the front shocks and front strut mounts. That was 11 days ago and there's been no sign of the knocking! The dealer said to give it a month and if the noise hasn't returned, it's probably fixed for good.

I really hope this is the remedy. It's been 13 months / 17,000 miles since I got the car, and in all that time it has been plagued by this issue. I still listen out for it but it's been all good so far.

Hi guys i have a sss on a 23 plate 8000 miles on the clock its got the knocking coming from the front left side, took it to the dealer yesterday and was told its already been done on that side so its failed twice so far, waiting for the dealer to get back to me on next steps,we have had the car for four months now,i just think this is very poor for a suzuki or any make of car.it looks like its the strut top mount.

Update ive had work done on the front left side, but still got the knocking noise, was told by the dealer thats were the knocking is comeing from but im sure its comeing from the back left,so its going back in again next monday,i think suzuki needs to recall these cars and sort it out once and for all.i had my last swift for 12 years absolutely no problems, think this will be my last.

ADRIAN MAURO, I understand your frustration. The dealer fitted new left & right front struts and top mounts after I mentioned other Sport users had success with these parts being replaced. They & Suzuki GB had no idea how to fix it otherwise. The problem had been ongoing for 13 months / 17,000 miles. I agree with you that Suzuki needs to address this.

Has your car had left & right front struts / top mounts replaced? The knocking on mine first appeared in the left rear area but the remedy was replacing parts on the front!

My last car was the previous generation Swift Sport which I had for 9 years from new, and it never had such a persistant issue.

I would like to say my car is now fault-free but cannot. It has developed a slight click noise from the steering at low speeds 🙁

Hi donger, the previous owner had the front left strut done, when i went to the dealer told them the knocking was coming from the rear left, dealer told me that it was the front left and the last suzuki dealer did a botched job on it so they had to redo it and it would take 3 hours,30 mins later all done for you sir,on the drive home same knocking from the rear left,i dont think they know what there doing to be honest and just fobbing me off, going back to dealer next monday, but i think im wasting my time.
